First Known Appearance: Marvel Comics Presents #85
Cyber is a character in Marvel Comics Universe. He was created by comic illustrator and writer Sam Kieth and writer Peter David. Cyber made his first appearance on Marvel Comics Presents #85 in September 1991.
Cyber was a supervillain whose real name was Silas Burr. He was known as the enemy of Wolverine, a member of X-Men. He was allegedly born in Canada. Cyber worked as an agent in the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. In 1912, he was subjected to trial in Iowa where the court found him guilty on 22 cases of murder. He was then sentenced to die through hanging. Cyber was able to escape the courthouse and eventually landed on a Western Canadian military base where he found Frederick Hudson who soon became his new employer. Hudson became interested with him because he wanted to use his distinct ability to train his people beyond their emotional and moral limits. This was the time when he first met and eventually confronted Logan (Wolverine). Cyber was instructed specifically to focus on Logan and was eventually given an order to murder a woman named Janet, who turned out to be Logan’s romantic interest. Witnessing her death, Logan became very furious and attacked Cyber but he was beaten so badly, which resulted to his utmost terror towards Cyber. He was once again subjected under Cyber’s command but he had no memory of the abuses he suffered from him.
In 1959, Cyber returned from Indochina and started training his best student, Daken, Logan’s son. Daken was secretly tasked to obliterate the training camp and all people related to it including Hudson, its combatant. Burr was spared because he was selected by Romulus as prototype for a process known as adamantium bonding process where a metal was permanently bonded to his own skin.
As of the modern time, Cyber re-emerged in Madripoor as a drug cartel enforcer. He interfered between General Coy and Tiger Tyger’s crime cartels. His appearance remained unchanged, except for the enhancements made on his adamantium. Wolverine, who managed to conquer his fear towards Cyber, was able to save Tyger.
Later, Cyber confronted X-Factor’s mutant team, along with Hell’s Belles, a female criminal organisation. Cyber, together with his group are tasked to stop Shrew, a previous member of Hell’s Belles who wanted to attest against the drug cartel. Cyber defeated Polaris, another member of X-Factor and poisoned Strong Guy through his claws but the latter was saved because of the US government’s scientific resources. Cyber was pushed by Shrew into an approaching train’s path and he then disappeared.
As a mutant, Cyber has natural powers and some are due to artificial enhancements. He has superhuman strength that has unknown limit. Cyber has adamantium claws, which have hallucinogen or poisoned tips specifically designed to affect Wolverine. These fingers, which are definitely fatal to ordinary humans, are capable of incapacitating Wolverine. These claws can also cut through almost any known material except adamantium and Captain America’s shield.
Cyber also has psionic ability that allowed him to track specific brain wave patterns even at great distances. He can also allow his consciousness to leave his body. His power increases when he is over-exposed to hallucinogens that cover his claws. Cyber is also exceptional in hand to hand combat. He was famous as World War I and II veteran, and even in the criminal underworld, where Cyber served as a mentor or special enforcer. He is considered to be talented especially when it comes to unarmed combat techniques.
Currently, Cyber’s consciousness possesses the body of Milo Gunderson, a large and muscular mutant having a child-like intelligence. Milo has superhuman strength with unknown limits. It was still unknown whether he has other supernatural powers. Cyber seemed to retain his brainwave tracking ability.
Milo recently underwent the adamantium process wherein his face was the only one left uncovered. He also now has retractable claws on his fingertips. Due to the process, Milo is now known to be resistant to injury including adamantium-composed weapons but all of the processes and mutant transformation put great stress on his heart. He became more dependent on the drug given to him by his mother. After a heart attack, he was given a ‘pacemaker,’ which was made from the deadly, radioactive element called carbonadium, which was placed on his chest. Blisters started to develop on his face possibly because of the effects of the process. Soon after, his condition worsened. He was later seen by Wolverine lying with eyes open and blood streaming from his carbonadium pacemaker and with flies all over his face.
